Arizona to invest in the trade for 2016

The Arizona Office of Tourism will invest more heavily in the UK this year and will appoint a new Trade Director to manage activities.

“We will be running more fam trips and investing in educating the trade to ensure they gain more knowledge of the state,” said Alba.

Arizona is currently promoting two important anniversaries for 2016 – the U.S. National Park Services’ centennial and the 90th anniversary of Route 66.

“As well as some key anniversaries in 2016, and our landmark attractions like the Grand Canyon, there are many more reasons to visit Arizona that agents might not realise. These include our extensive vineyards and gourmet tourism,” added Alba.

New York campaigns with Heathrow

New York City’s official destination marketing organisation, NYC & Company, and Virgin Holidays joined forces with Heathrow Airport to encourage customers to visit New York. The campaign, which ran in January, promoted travel during the months of January and February.

The digital campaign was activated across social media as well as displayed on in-terminal digital media screens and highlighted value-led flights and hotel packages across the City. New York’s ‘hidden gems’ were celebrated throughout the campaign, with British visitors being encouraged to explore some of the city’s lesser-known attractions such as the Brooklyn Lager Brewery, Katz Deli, The High Line and the Lincoln Centre.

Simon Eastburn, Heathrow’s Airline Business Director said: “We’ve been connecting passengers to New York for over 40 years and it is a great destination for both business and leisure travel. It’s the most popular route on our network and we’re delighted to be able to collaborate with NYC & Company and Virgin Holidays to celebrate all that’s great about the Big Apple.”

There are more than 50 flights to the New York City every day and over two million passengers a year fly from either JFK or Newark.

Colorado still the wildest state

One of the most hotly anticipated films of 2016, Quentin Tarantino’s H8ful Eight, which is winning plaudits after its January release, was filmed in Colorado.

The western, which stars Samuel L Jackson, Channing Tatum and Jennifer Jason Leigh, was shot near the southwest town of Telluride.

The stunning views of the San Juan Mountains featured in the movie, although most of the movie was filmed in the wilderness area and around the San Miguel River.

The cast and crew were also seen around Telluride, frequenting popular restaurants and bars, and joined the locals in Telluride Elks Park for a ski burn as a ritual to bring snow.

H8ful Eight joins a number of high profile films that have brought scenic Colorado to the big screen, from comedies such as Christmas Vacation and Dumb and Dumber to old-fashioned westerns such as True Grit and How the West Was Won.
