Baltimore in lights from Purely America

Purely America has a tour that takes in a new festival in Baltimore that is set to illuminate the Maryland city this March.

Baltimore

Light City, a celebration of Baltimore's creative, cutting-edge, multi-channel talent, will transform Baltimore with world-class light displays, cutting-edge sculptures, video projections on buildings and interactive technologies to create a set of unique experiences for residents and visitors alike.

Works on display will include a piece by Aether and Hemera, based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Their piece 'Voyage' will consist of 300 illuminated floating 'paper-boats' and is designed to be an interactive experience which people can engage with through their mobile phones. To interact with the installation, visitors can connect their phones via local free WiFi and a local server. The individual boats are translucent elements folded from die-cut polypropylene sheets.

Baltimore is an appropriate host for a festival celebrating light: In 1816 it was the first American city to illuminate its streets with gas lanterns.

Light City will feature curated live shows that will invite visitors to experience Baltimore’s thriving music scenes.

Purely America is offering a four-night package, on a room-only basis at the four-star Hotel Monaco, timed to coincide with Light City.

Priced from £869pp, based on travel March 31 to April 4 2016, it is for two adults sharing a standard room and includes return British Airways flights from Heathrow to Baltimore Washington International Airport, daily complimentary morning coffee and tea and a daily hosted evening wine hour in served in the hotel's lobby.
