Kimpton to open 10th D.C. hotel

The Kimpton Glover Park Hotel, currently operating as the Savoy Suites Hotel, is undergoing a significant multimillion-dollar renovation, rebrand and redesign of all its guest rooms, public areas, restaurant, outdoor and event spaces and will officially join the Kimpton portfolio as the Glover Park Hotel in spring 2016.

Glover Park

Situated along Wisconsin Avenue in a tree-lined, residential neighbourhood, some 25 of the rooms in the 154-room property have sweeping views of the National Mall and Potomac River - and 21 rooms will have kitchenettes aimed at families and those who plan a longer stay.

The hotel’s top-to-bottom transformation will also include a full-service destination-dining restaurant, a new ballroom, restored outdoor space, and a boutique-style gym from Graham King’s Urban Athletic Club.

It will offer all of Kimpton’s signature touches, from complimentary morning coffee, tea service and a nightly hosted wine hour to custom maps of the neighbourhood including nearby park trails.

Other guest amenities will also include Gaiam yoga mats in every guest room, luxurious bath products, 300 thread-count Frette linens, complimentary Wi-Fi and other perks for Kimpton Karma Rewards members.

Aloft opens in Sarasota

The Aloft, a new hotel offering 139 stylish ‘urban design’ rooms, has opened in Sarasota, Florida.

The stylish Field Guide Hotel, located in the town of Stowe, offers 30 modern rooms, suites and cottage suites, a spacious designer guest lounge and a seasonal heated pool and hot tub.

Located in the heart of downtown, it is the first 100-plus room hotel to be located directly in the core of the city.

The guestrooms feature airy nine-foot-high ceilings, plush platform beds, fast and free wifi, 40-inch TVs, Aloft Bliss Spa bath amenities and walk-in rainfall showers. The two signature bars are Re:mix lounge, with day-to-night lighting and music, and WXYZ bar.

There’s also a gym and splash pool bar and patio, situated on the eighth floor, with dynamic Sarasota skyline views.

For kids there’s ‘bed-in-a-bag’ and other treats, and a special kids menu from Re:fuel by Aloft.

Nearby city attractions include the Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota Opera House, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium and ‘people watching’ at St. Armands Circle.

Or borrow a hotel cruiser bicycle and hit the Sarasota waterfront, just a block away, or head to Lido Beach, a five-minute drive from the hotel.
