Rocky takes more steps in Philadelphia

Rocky Balbao will again put locations across Philadelphia in the spotlight when he returns to the UK’s big screens on January 15.

The new Rocky film – Creed – sees Balboa, the former world heavyweight champion, train Adonis Johnson, the son of his late friend and former rival Apollo Creed.

Philadelphia appeared in the first Rocky movie, most famously when Sylvester Stallone ran up the 72 steps outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The Philadelphia CVB is encouraging all fans of the film to follow in Rocky's actual footsteps with a trip to the films' locations by taking a half-day, self-guided tour of the city that takes in the Rocky Steps, the Rocky Statue and the Italian Market.

Once at the top of the Rocky Steps visitors are rewarded with fabulous views of the city. They can then have their photo taken by the Rocky Statue, at the bottom of the Rocky Steps. One of the city's most favourite public pieces of art, the bronze statue was originally created for the Rocky III film and was donated to the city by Stallone.

Also drop by the Italian Market in South Philadelphia. Rocky ran through America's oldest outdoor market cheered on by local market stall holders.

America As You Like has a four-night room-only package to Philadelphia, priced from £727pp. The deal, based on two adults, includes accommodation at the Sonesta Hotel and flights from Heathrow on March 7 2016.
